When I joined the Midstate family about 9 years ago, selfishly, laser hair removal for my underarms was my first priority! I could shave in the morning, have such bad razor burn and by the afternoon It looked like I hadn’t shaved in 2 days. It was embarrassing and frustrating. After treating my underarms even after a couple treatments, it was life changing! I didn’t have that razor burn anymore, no five-o clock shadow and barely any more growth. Now that I’ve finished all of my treatments I have about 3 light, soft hairs that grow randomly that I barely see. Best thing I ever did for myself. I then started on the bikini area due to that being the same trouble I had with my underarms. I no longer have that embarrassing razor burn and skin irritation after shaving. I wanted to share my experience because I know how frustrating dark hair can be for women and men. We can treat head to toe as long as it is dark hair. It is a process, but one that is worth it more than you can imagine.
What happens during laser hair removal?
Before the treatment, the area to be treated will be cleansed. To perform the procedure, the skin is held taut and the skin is treated with the laser. Many patients say that the laser pulses feel like warm pinpricks or a rubber band being snapped against the skin. A laser removes hair by vaporizing it. This causes small plumes of smoke that have a sulfur-like smell. How long your treatment lasts depends on the size of the area being treated. Treating the upper lip takes minutes. If you are having a large area like the back or legs treated, your treatment may last more than an hour. To remove the hair, most patients need 2 to 6 laser treatments. After finishing the treatments, most patients do not see any hair on the treated skin for several months or even years. When the hair regrows, there tends to be less of it. The hairs also tend to be finer and lighter in color.
Permanent Makeup
Permanent makeup has been around for decades and has come a long way. The tools we use to tattoo beautiful brows for patients that have lost their brow hair or just want an extra boost of confidence have had a major upgrade from what it used to be. I hear every day how women struggle to apply their brow pencil or pomade to get the perfect / symmetrical brows we see all over social media. This is where permanent makeup can come into your life and make your morning much easier and faster for you. Come in for your 15-minute consult and we can see if you are a great candidate!
What is Permanent makeup?
Permanent cosmetics procedures are performed using various devices, including the traditional tattoo coil machines, the pen or rotary machine (includes the digital rotary machines) and the non-machine or hand device. The process includes a consultation, the application of pigment, and at least one or more follow up visits for evaluating the healed design work and color of the pigment. A tattoo can mimic eyeliner or lipstick, or it can darken and create the look of thicker eyebrows. It can also camouflage scars and help with the look of an uneven hairline. Anna also specializes in areola tattooing for mastectomy patients. Interest in this service spans the young to the more mature; those who desire a soft, natural enhancement to their appearance. It is especially valuable to people who can’t wear traditional cosmetics due to allergies and skin sensitivities; active people who want to look their best for sports activities such as swimming, hiking, biking, tennis, aerobics; and those who don’t want to worry about “sweating off” or reapplying cosmetics. Permanent Cosmetics also benefits the vision challenged who have difficulty applying their cosmetics; and others with dexterity related conditions such as arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke survivors, and busy people who don’t have time to spend applying and refreshing makeup throughout the day and evening.

“Be true to your story no matter what it looks like”
My career is a perfect example of this quote. I actually went to Esthetics school to legally become a makeup artist. I quickly learned I love this skin stuff! I started out doing very minimal facials at a retail store. It very dissatisfying but I realize years later I needed to work there to learn product lines, ingredients, the necessity of education and how to speak to clients about the importance of skincare. I had no idea that would bring me to a very fulfilling career doing what I love every day. Your beginning might not seem like much, but it always prepares you for your future. So, pay attention in your “stagnant” state because it is prepping you for your amazing future.
