Mohs Micrographic Surgery

MidState Skin Institute

Expert Mohs Surgery Care You Can Trust

At MidState Skin Institute, we provide Mohs Micrographic Surgery to treat certain types of skin cancer, most commonly basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Mohs surgery removes cancer in thin layers, examining each layer under a microscope during the same visit to ensure the cancer is fully cleared while preserving as much healthy skin as possible. It is often used for cancers in sensitive areas, such as the face or hands. On procedure day, the area is numbed with local anesthesia, a thin layer of tissue is removed and examined in our on-site lab, and this process continues until no cancer cells remain, followed by careful wound repair to support proper healing. With four convenient locations, Deerwood Office, Jasmine Office, Paddock Park Office in Ocala, FL, and Lutz Office in Lutz, FL, we make trusted dermatology care accessible for local families.

Your visit to MidState Skin Institute is thorough, professional, and centered around your comfort.

The treatment area is cleaned and numbed with local anesthesia. You remain awake, but the area will not feel pain.

The visible skin cancer and a thin layer of surrounding tissue are removed.

The removed tissue is processed in our on-site lab. This process usually takes 60 to 90 minutes while you wait comfortably in the office.

After the cancer is removed, the surgeon treats the wound to support healing and preserve appearance. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions before going home.
