Dr. Ashley Cauthen

Dr. Ashley Cauthen is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. With a focus on providing personalized, compassionate care, Dr. Cauthen strives to enhance the health and appearance of her patients’ skin, delivering the highest standard of treatment for a wide range of dermatologic conditions.

Dr. Cauthen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of South Florida, where she graduated with honors. She went on to complete her Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Florida State University, where she distinguished herself through academic excellence and clinical proficiency.

After medical school, Dr. Cauthen pursued her dermatology residency at University of South Florida, where she developed her skills in diagnosing and treating various dermatologic conditions, including skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis, and more. 

Throughout her training, Dr. Cauthen worked with leading experts in dermatology, gaining invaluable experience in both clinical and surgical settings.

Dr. Cauthen is deeply committed to staying current with the latest advancements in dermatology. She regularly attends continuing education programs and conferences to refine her skills and ensure that her patients receive cutting-edge, evidence-based care.

Dr. Cauthen is married to her high school sweetheart, Thomas Cauthen, who has worked tirelessly to help her launch MidState Skin Institute, a dream she had for many years. Since opening in 2013, MidState has expanded to five offices across Central Florida. The couple is blessed with two beautiful, energetic children, Madison and Brody and one sassy office dog, Roxy.

Dr. Daven Doshi

Dr. Daven Doshi is a board-certified dermatologist and a highly skilled Mohs Micrographic Surgeon specializing in the detection, prevention, and treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers and malignant melanoma. With extensive training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Dr. Doshi is one of the few physicians in north-central Florida with fellowship training in this highly specialized procedure, known to be the most effective surgical treatment for Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Dr. Doshi’s educational journey began in his hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he graduated from Bowling Green High School. 

He then traveled to the nation’s capital, where he completed a combined B.A./M.D. program at The George Washington University. As a University Honors Program Scholar, he majored in religious studies, which deepened his understanding of the various faiths and their cultural and historical contexts.

After graduating from medical school, Dr. Doshi continued his training in Boston, MA, where he completed his intern year. He then moved to Cleveland, OH, to focus on clinical research in malignant melanoma and cutaneous T-Cell lymphoma at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals. For his dermatology residency, Dr. Doshi set his sights on the Big Apple, where he trained at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City.

Following residency, Dr. Doshi honed his expertise by completing a specialized fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Procedural Dermatology in Georgia. He is also Board-certified in Mohs Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery, further affirming his expertise in this critical area of dermatologic surgery.

Dr. Doshi is passionate about providing high-quality, patient-centered care and is dedicated to treating patients with the utmost precision and skill. Outside of his professional practice, he enjoys exploring various aspects of culture, history, and faith, drawing on the unique insights gained from his academic background.

Dr. Puja Kathrotiya

Dr. Puja Kathrotiya, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She is a valued member of the Midstate Skin Institute team, where she provides expert care in general dermatology, surgical dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology to patients of all ages.

Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Kathrotiya completed her medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine before moving to Gainesville, Florida, to complete her dermatology residency at the University of Florida. During her residency, she was honored to serve as chief resident in her final year of training. Before joining Midstate Skin, Dr. Kathrotiya worked in private practice in the Orlando and Bradenton areas, where she gained extensive experience in both medical and cosmetic dermatology.

At Midstate Skin Institute, Dr. Kathrotiya is committed to providing the highest standard of care to her patients, offering a comprehensive range of dermatologic services, including medical treatments, surgical procedures, and aesthetic services.

In her spare time, Dr. Kathrotiya enjoys exploring “old Florida”, discovering the state’s quaint, preserved towns, and appreciating the natural beauty of the region. She is also an avid traveler with a personal goal of visiting every U.S. National Park in her lifetime. When at home, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Dr. Nicole Howe

Lutz, FL

Dr. Nicole Howe, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and Fellowship Trained Mohs surgeon specializing in surgical, medical, and cosmetic dermatology for patients of all ages and skin types. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida before continuing her education at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in recognition of her compassionate care. Dr. Howe then completed her dermatology residency at USF and Moffitt Cancer Center, gaining extensive experience in the field.

Dr. Howe further refined her expertise by completing a prestigious fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the University of Vermont under the mentorship of Dr. Glenn Goldman and Dr. Todd Holmes. During her fellowship, she focused on skin cancer detection, management, removal, and complex reconstructions and wound healing. Her commitment to advancing dermatology is evident in her authorship of book chapters and numerous journal articles.

She is a proud member and fellow of several prominent organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Howe’s distinguished career also includes serving as an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where she worked alongside some of the nation’s leading cutaneous surgeons. After several years of service, Dr. Howe returned to her hometown in Florida to be closer to her family and bring a fresh perspective to the region’s dermatology practice. She has also provided care at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida, offering her expertise to veterans.

Known for her compassionate approach, Dr. Howe is dedicated to providing personalized, gold-standard care to all her patients. She takes the time to get to know her patients as individuals, ensuring their unique needs are met. Her patients often describe her as treating them like family, creating a comfortable environment with her genuine care, knowledge, and expertise.

Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Howe enjoys spending time with her boys, kayaking, hiking, and sharing her love for nature.

Dr. Marian Ibrahim

Lutz, FL

Dr. Ibrahim, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist with an exceptional academic and professional background. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Wayne State University, graduating summa cum laude, before continuing her education at Wayne State University for her medical degree, where she graduated at the top of her class and received honors in several clinical areas.

Dr. Ibrahim completed her internship at Oakwood Hospital and went on to complete her dermatology residency at Wayne State University, where she was honored to serve as Chief Resident. 

 

She is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and has expertise in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.

Dr. Ibrahim’s excellence in patient care has earned her recognition from her peers, and she was selected for inclusion in Tampa Magazine’s 2024 Top Doctors list. She provides care to both adult and pediatric patients, always striving to deliver the highest level of dermatologic care.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Ibrahim enjoys spending quality time with her family, traveling, and playing sports.

Dr. John Mavropolous

Dr. John Mavropolous, also known as Dr. Mav, is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon with specialized expertise in the precise removal of skin cancer while preserving surrounding healthy tissue and optimizing cosmetic results. Dr. Mavropolous is a proud member of the American College of Mohs Surgery and has dedicated his career to advancing the field of Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstructive dermatologic surgery.

Dr. Mavropolous earned his medical degree from Duke University before completing his dermatology residency at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

 Following residency, Dr. Mavropolous pursued an intensive one-year fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and procedural dermatology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he honed his skills in skin cancer treatment and reconstructive techniques.

Dr. Mavropolous is an expert in treating basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and certain melanomas using the Mohs surgical technique, which ensures the highest cure rates with minimal tissue removal. His meticulous approach emphasizes both functional preservation and aesthetic outcomes, ensuring that patients not only receive effective treatment but also maintain the best possible cosmetic results.

With a patient-centered approach to care, Dr. Mavropolous is dedicated to providing compassionate and individualized treatment, emphasizing the importance of early detection and precise surgical intervention in the fight against skin cancer.

Outside of his clinical practice, Dr. Mav enjoys staying active through running, biking, weight-lifting, and spending quality time with his family and friends. He is also passionate about teaching, reading, cooking, and traveling, and brings his enthusiasm for continuous learning into his professional life.

Colby Crile, PA-C

Colby Crile, PA-C, is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. As an Ocala native, she is proud to serve the community she calls home, delivering advanced dermatologic care with clinical precision and a patient-centered focus.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from the University of Florida before completing her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies at Nova Southeastern University in Orlando. She began her dermatology career in Orlando, where she developed extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical skin conditions, performing surgical procedures, and providing cosmetic treatments. This comprehensive foundation allows her to approach each patient’s care with depth, accuracy, and confidence.

Her philosophy is grounded in education, transparency, and individualized treatment planning. Colby believes exceptional dermatologic care requires more than treatment alone; it requires partnership. She prioritizes clear communication and evidence-based solutions to ensure patients feel informed, supported, and confident in their care decisions.

Whether managing complex medical conditions or helping patients achieve their aesthetic goals, Colby is committed to delivering results that reflect the highest standards of safety and clinical excellence. Colby enjoys spending time with her family and dogs.

Casey Overturf, PA-C

Casey, PA-C, is a board-certified Physician Assistant who specializes in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She delivers comprehensive dermatologic care with clinical precision and a strong commitment to patient-centered excellence.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry, before completing her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies at Harding University in 2014. After graduation, Casey began her dermatology career in Georgia, where she practiced until July 2017, building a solid foundation in medical and surgical dermatology.

In 2017, Casey relocated to Tampa, Florida, where she continued practicing dermatology until 2021, further expanding her experience in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. In 2021, she and her family moved to Ocala, Florida, where she joined MidState Skin.

Throughout her career, Casey has remained dedicated to continuing education and professional advancement. She regularly attends conferences and pursues ongoing training in dermatology and cosmetic procedures. She is an active member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA), the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), and the Florida Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (FSDPA).

Outside of work, Casey enjoys spending time with her family and friends, staying active, and pursuing her hobbies.

Hope Allen, PA-C

Hope, PA-C, is a nationally board-certified Physician Assistant and a Fellow of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA) with a passion for medical dermatology and skin cancer diagnosis. A proud member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), Hope has built her career with a focus on providing exceptional dermatologic care.

Hope moved to Florida to pursue her Master’s level education as a Physician Assistant at the University of Florida, where she had the opportunity to train in dermatology at MidState for two months as a PA student. 

After graduating, she completed a fellowship as a Dermatology Physician Assistant in Colorado, where she further developed her expertise in medical dermatology, particularly in dermoscopy and the early diagnosis of skin cancer.

Now back in Florida, Hope is thrilled to rejoin the MidState family, where she will continue to provide compassionate, high-quality care to her patients.

Outside of her dermatology practice, Hope enjoys spending time with her husband and two yellow labs, cooking, and sharing meals with family and friends. She also enjoys CrossFit and competition shooting, staying active in both her personal and professional life.

Sierra Mahoney, PA-C

Sierra Mahoney, PA-C, is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in general and surgical dermatology. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Sierra obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she worked part-time as a certified nursing assistant. After graduating, she worked as a medical assistant in a podiatry office before pursuing her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Tampa, where she graduated with highest honors.

During her studies, Sierra discovered her true passion for dermatology, particularly general and surgical dermatology, and has since dedicated her career to providing exceptional care in this field.

Outside of work, Sierra enjoys spending time with her husband, Kyle, and loves to travel whenever the opportunity arises.

Brooklynn Curley, APRN-C

Brooklynn Curley is an Ocala native and a dedicated board-certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in dermatology. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Florida, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University in Chicago. Throughout her academic journey, Brooklynn worked as a Registered Nurse for over eight years, primarily in the Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Ocala, where she gained hands-on experience treating a wide variety of skin conditions and providing invasive wound care.

Brooklynn’s passion for education led her to become a clinical instructor for LPN/RN’s in the community and help others achieve their goals and continue to build and empower those in healthcare. Her love for her community and being rooted in her hometown drove her passion to find a local practice to call home that allowed her to continue helping others.
 
Outside of work, Brooklynn is a proud mother to an amazing girl and boy, we can’t forget about her fur baby. When not on the go with her family, you can find them enjoying outdoor activities, sports of all kinds, live music, and being anywhere near the water. Brooklynn is also passionate about the gym and used to be a personal trainer. 
 
She thrives off of being able to give back to her hometown community by providing high-quality dermatologic care to the people she cares about most.

Sue Schmeltz, PA-C

Sue, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant with a broad medical background and extensive experience  in dermatology.  She obtained her  Bachelor’s  degree in Sports Medicine, with minors in Exercise Science and Spanish, from Elon University, graduating with honors in 1999. Sue began her career working as a Medical Assistant in private Primary Care and as a Research Assistant in Clinical Pharmacy Practice at the University of Florida. During this time, she worked alongside various healthcare professionals, which ultimately led her to pursue the Physician Assistant role due to its versatility across medical specialties.

Sue graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2004, and shortly after, relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where she worked in a variety of specialties, including outpatient orthopedics, inpatient cardiac surgery, and as an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University’s Physician Assistant Program.

In 2013, Sue and her family returned to Florida, where she transitioned into the specialty of dermatology, finding it both stimulating and rewarding. She is passionate about staying current with general medical knowledge and is working towards becoming a Diplomate Fellow, the highest recognition available for Physician Assistants in dermatology.

Sue is excited to be joining the MidState Skin Institute team, a family-owned practice known for providing Ocala’s best medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic care since 2013. Sue looks forward to reconnecting with both existing patients and welcoming new faces.

Robin Moran, PA-C

Lutz, FL

Robin Moran, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant with extensive experience in medical dermatology. A Tampa native, she earned both her Bachelor of Health Science and Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Florida.

Robin brings over seven years of specialized dermatologic training from the University of South Florida, where she practiced under the esteemed Dr. Neil Fenske, Chair of Dermatology. Her expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers, eczema, psoriasis, acne, and rosacea, ensuring her patients receive the highest level of personalized care. Known for her compassionate approach and clinical excellence, Robin has been recognized with multiple patient satisfaction awards throughout her career.

She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is an active member of the Florida Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

Outside of work, Robin enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, as well as baking, traveling, and cheering on her favorite sports teams.

Sydney Leslie, PA-C

Lutz, FL

Sydney Leslie, PA-C, is a board-certified Physician Assistant with extensive experience in medical dermatology. A Tampa native, she is proud to provide compassionate, patient-centered dermatologic care to patients throughout the Tampa Bay area. 

Sydney earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from the University of Florida before completing her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies at Nova Southeastern University. She began her dermatology career in Atlanta, where she gained experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of dermatologic conditions, including a strong focus on skin cancer detection.

Known for her friendly and personalized approach, Sydney is passionate about helping patients feel comfortable, informed, and empowered in their care. She believes exceptional dermatologic care is built on trust, education, and meaningful patient relationships. By taking the time to truly listen and understand each patient’s concerns, she strives to create a supportive experience centered on long-term skin health and proactive prevention.

Outside of the office, Sydney enjoys spending time with her family and golden retriever, Albert. Together they enjoy exploring the outdoors, tackling home projects, and cheering on the Florida Gators.

Allie White, APRN-C

Allie is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a strong foundation in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Raised in the Ocala area, she obtained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from the University of South Florida, with a dedicated goal of specializing in dermatology.

Allie built her clinical expertise over a decade at UF Health in Gainesville, where she worked in the Surgical ICU, Operating Room, and Post-Anesthesia Recovery Unit. During this time, she gained extensive experience managing dermatologic conditions in acute care settings, further solidifying her passion for skin health. She is certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) and is trained to provide comprehensive care for patients of all ages, from infancy to geriatrics.

Beyond her professional journey, Allie and her husband spent several years traveling the country in support of his professional athletic career. Now settled back in Florida, they enjoy spending time outdoors, boating, and embracing the beautiful Florida lifestyle with their young son.

Allie is elated to be serving her hometown community as a provider at MidState Skin, where she combines her medical expertise, surgical precision, and passion for aesthetics to deliver exceptional dermatologic care.

Kendall Thurston, APRN-C

Kendall is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a strong clinical foundation in medical dermatology, adult and pediatric primary care, and critical care nursing. She brings a well-rounded background that blends patient-centered care, clinical precision, and a passion for skin health.
 
Kendall earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Florida, along with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner program through the University of Alabama at Birmingham. 
Her advanced training included extensive clinical rotations in adult primary care, pediatric primary care, and medical dermatology, equipping her to care for patients across the lifespan.
 
She has been a Registered Nurse since 2020 and gained valuable experience working as an ICU Registered Nurse at Shands Hospital, where she developed strong clinical judgment and skills in managing complex medical conditions. Kendall also served as a Registered Nurse at MidState Skin Institute, further deepening her expertise in dermatologic care and reinforcing her commitment to the specialty.

Kendall is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), is licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Florida, and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.

Outside of the clinic, Kendall enjoys traveling, spending time near the water, a crisp McDonald’s Diet Coke, and making memories with her husband and three beautiful children.

Lacy Thompson, Aesthetician

Lacy Thompson is a seasoned professional with a rich background in both the medical field and the beauty industry. Born in Gainesville, FL, and raised in Ocala, FL, Lacy’s journey reflects her unwavering commitment to excellence and her deep-rooted values. With 8+ years in the medical field, Lacy honed her skills as a compassionate and skilled registered medical assistant. Lacy dedicated many years in the wholesale beauty industry. Her expertise as an aesthetician specializing in facials, chemical peels, microneedling, and microdermabrasion, combined with a degree in Registered Medical Assistance, positioned her as a versatile and accomplished person. 

Through personalized skincare treatments and therapies, she helps clients achieve healthy, glowing skin while fostering a sense of relaxation and self-care. Lacy’s commitment to continuous learning and staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends underscores her dedication to providing the highest level of care to her clients. Her unique blend of medical knowledge and aesthetic expertise positions her as a trusted professional who prioritizes both the well-being and confidence of those she serves.

Beyond her professional achievements, Lacy’s personal life is equally fulfilling. Celebrating 30+ years of marriage to Todd Thompson, she is a proud mother to two sons, William and Tripp and a determined daughter Aubrey. As a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren, Lacy’s heart is enriched with the joys of family. Outside of work and family, Lacy embraces life’s simple pleasures. She finds solace and inspiration on sandy white beaches, cherishes quality family time, and indulges her passion for decorating and organization. Dedicated gym sessions reflect her commitment to wellness, while her open-mindedness and eagerness to learn new trades showcase her dynamic spirit.
