January 2023.
I was a newly graduated board-certified dermatologist with a dream of providing care to patients in my hometown. I had a total of six patients that entire week. Five were friends or family, the other one was lost and came in for directions but decided to get a spot biopsied while he was here. The phone rang nine times that week. Seven of which were my Mom checking on me. Our entire team consisted of me, Thomas, Brittney and someone to man the phones (that rarely rang). When I think back to those times, I remember the fear and uncertainty I felt. Am I ready for this? Will patients like me? When will I get busy? How will I ever pay back these loans? But I also remember the excitement and commitment to create something I would be proud of.
Today we have three locations and approximately 60,000 patients. An average of 250 patients visit our offices each day and the phone doesn’t seem to stop ringing. I am now supported by a team of fifty coworkers who are invaluable in making what was once a dream a reality. A lot has changed in ten years. Those initial feelings of fear, uncertainty, excitement and commitment still remain though. I think that’s what motivates us to keep improving and making new goals. My main goal for 2023 is to continue to improve the patient experience at our offices. To do that, a few exciting changes will be made.
First, and the biggest undertaking yet, is our Jasmine Park location is moving into a brand new 6000 square foot building that is currently under construction. The new building is within 100 yards of the current location so will be easy for patients to find. There will be PLENTY of parking, a dozen exam rooms, and a dedicated aesthetic suite offering aesthetician services. We are excited to welcome patients into this space starting summer 2023. Second, we are bringing on new laser technology to improve patient outcomes. We are very excited to be the first and only office in Ocala to offer Scition’s Broad Band Light (BBL) HERO system, the most advanced non-ablative light therapy laser for skin rejuvenation. Virtually anyone can benefit from BBL treatments, and the HERO (high energy rapid output) makes treatment faster and more comfortable than ever before. It has set a new gold standard in treating skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyles and sun damage for anywhere on the body. This treatment is now available at our Deerwood office. Lastly, in an effort to keep up with demand and decrease patient wait times, we are introducing two new providers. Sierra Rebchook, PA-C joined us in April and will have availability at Deerwood this spring. Hope Allen, PA-C has been with us since May and will join the team at Jasmine full-time once we move into the new location. I am thankful they have joined our MidState family and am excited for you to meet them.
